PIXMA MX492 requiring a password to print on a Mac M2

Sorry to post this again, but I used the wrong printer number before.

I can't get the printer to work with my Macbook Air M2.  I installed the latest downlad from Cannon but my Mac can't print - I get a message that the printing can't complete without "autherization" - I need the password.  I tried using the serial number and "canon" but neither works.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Which application is asking for authorization?

It seems to be the printer app.  When I try to print, the Mac recoginizes the printer and there is a message "pending authorization" just below where it looks like printing itself almost begins.

Which app is the item in that you are trying to print?

It's a TextEdit app: .txt  I have printed TextEdit many times with another computer.  The exact message I receive is "Hold for Authentication"

I just printed a test document using TextEdit on my MacBook Air M2 using my WiFi connected TR8620a and did not get that message.

Is your printer WiFi connected or USB connected.

The new macOS requires authorization for USB connected devices.

If that isn't the resolution you should call Canon support.

The printer is USB connected.  Do you know how get the needed authorization on the Mac?

I don't understand what those names refer to - I want to know how to get the permission I need to print using a USB cable.

these three steps are easy to follow. If that doesn’t work you need to call Canon support. 1-800-OK-CANON
