PIXMA TR4720 - Cannon 275 Black ink already low after 20 black text pages

My PIXMA TR4720 alerted me last week that it needed a system update. I pressed OK, and then the black ink ran out. I ordered a new CANNON 275 Black cartridge from Amazon, and printed about 20 black text only sheets since Friday (it is Sunday). My printer is already saying it is low on ink! Has this happened to anyone else? This is crazy! I didn’t purchase an off brand ink. @Cannon, I’d appreciate an actual full CANNON 275 black ink cartridge.

Understanding Low Ink Alerts on the PIXMA TR4720

Ink Status Monitor Limitations

The ink status monitor on Canon printers, including the PIXMA TR4720, may not provide an accurate reading of the actual ink levels. This monitor estimates ink based on the number of pages printed since the last cartridge replacement. Therefore, it is possible for the printer to indicate low ink after printing only a small number of pages, such as 20 black text pages.

Solutions to Address Low Ink Alerts

If your PIXMA TR4720 is showing low ink levels prematurely, consider the following options:

  • Disable the Ink Status Monitor:
    • Hold the Stop/Cancel button (red triangle in a circle) for 5-10 seconds.
    • This action will stop the printer from updating you about ink levels, allowing you to use the cartridge without the low ink warning.
  • Monitor Print Quality:

    • Keep an eye on the print quality. If you notice fading or poor print results, it may be time to replace the cartridge, regardless of the ink status monitor's reading.
