PIXMA MX410 Driver Availability

My printer works fine. I just got a new computer but Canon's website says this printer is no longer supported, and I cannot download a driver.

Am I really supposed to throw this perfectly fine printer away because Canon no longer supports it? This is wasteful and I won't continue to buy Canon products if this is the case.

By your own admission your printer worked fine until you purchased a new computer. It is incumbent on users to verify that their devices will work with new computers or operating systems or decide if the advantages of the new configuration is cost beneficial compared to perhaps having to purchase new auxilliaries.

I believe that printer was released about 14 years ago and is no longer sold. That is far longer than reasonable to assume support since there is no income to pay the engineers to update drivers.

I have seen, but cannot verify, that the driver for the MX492 will work.

I am not ok with dumping a perfectly fine working printer into a landfill. I had to buy a new computer.

Maybe the thought of functioning printers in a landfill doesn't bother you, but it bothers me. I will make an effort to research companies before making purchases, and only support companies that take responsibility for the responsible disposal of their products, and those who do not practice planned obsolescence. I would support companies that continue to support older models with driver updates. It can't take much to do that - build it into the price of new models, and you have my business.

Did you try the MX492 driver like I posted?
