PIXMA MP450 won't scan

DanS4

I've had this problem for a long time.  The scanner doesn't work.  I follow the prompts on the printer display, but when I press either start button, nothing happens.  No error message, no noise, no change on the display - absolutely nothing happens.  It just sits there.

I currently have to open the Device Manager in Windows and go find the printer and scan from there, but it'd sure be easier if I could just press the button and have it work.  Any ideas?

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MP450 is an older model which means we have retired it. The product being retired means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it. If your friends here in the Canon Community have any insight, they are welcome to offer suggestions.

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them on weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Even if the model is retired, any decent tech company should have some archive of known issues and trouble-shooting history.

Other than this inconvenience, my printer works just fine.  Why would I want to buy a new one?  (Maybe it's not the best idea to try to suck money from a customer of whose problem you've just washed your hands.)
