Mx920 Wireless printing problem

slashmon1

I have just bought an mx920, beautiful printer I may point out, it worked well for the first two days but I cannot print as of today, I connect to the printer wirelessly and all my computers are Macs.

The printer is connected to the network properly and my computer shows that it has an active connectiong, but when I click print the printer goes to "in use" and then goes offline, and the Print Que says "Printer not connected"

I've tried connecting the printer to the network again, and I have restarted the printer along with my computers but it still wont work.

Please help

I think I have come up with a work around to avoid accessing the router directly to reserve the ip addresses.  When you get a valid connection and add a newprinter, as long as you select the proper type of printer a windows system driver or WSD with WS in name will be established.  Moreover, you can add another printer icon in printers and devices using the current tcp/ip address as the port, so if the printer is assigned a new ip address dynamically, all you have to do is choose the port type and entering current ip address assigned by the router. I suspect Canon prefers their Canon type printer port, but I have tried the procedures above and they both work, noting others have commented that WSD drivers do not encompass full functionality of printer, so would still recommend you go into router and address assign working IP address after re-initialization with drivers from Canon website, AFTER, resetting the LAN settings on the printer touch screen.

For NETGEAR routers, the login user is: "admin" and the pwd: "password". For other routers you may be able to look online.  The solution I discovered was going to the advanced tab [192.168.1.1/adv_index.htm] for NETGEAR routers> Setup> LAN setup and assigning the current working IP address, after printer initialization, to the MAC address and name of printer, so that the router reserves the IP address for printer and does not dynamically drop or add the printer with a new ip address which does not coincide with port and IP address that the printer was previously using.  If you do have to re-install drivers and go through process, once again, make sure you reset the LAN settings on the printer touch screen; otherwise, the new port and ip address assignment will not take with automatic detecting

There are numerous threads on this same issue.  In another thread with link below, I hope to have fully explained why recycling the power to printer does not always work in trying to re-synchronize printer and router after connection has been dropped due to sleep mode or printer power off, and, the DHCP dynamic addressing has now assigned the originally assigned printer IP address to another device.  I hope this helps.   http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Wireless-Networking/MX922-goes-to-sleep-and-loses-WiFi-connection/...

I was about to return the printer when I tried this:

Go to Canon website and download the driver again (making sure you are not connected by usb or ethernet to the printer)

I installed this driver (now the 2nd time) and as it was setting up, it gave me an option to set it up as 'wireless lan'!

I went through setup, and Boom! I was able to print wirelessly...FINALLY!

It was then set as the default and I named it 'Canon etc. WIRELESS'.

The printer showing offline is the USB driver.

How exasperating this has been - but for now, it's working!

You've just to make sure that you're choosing the the right "printer" (usb or wireless) when printing something off.

Hope this helps someone. 🙂

As a light user only my major issue is with printer heads apparently drying out. The number of times  my MX920 has gobbled up new cartridges just trying to having to go thru the cleaning process several times has cost a fortune. This, added to the fact that there appears to be no on board memory makes this manufacturer a poor option. I purchased specifically due to having wireless connectivity (due to lack of space) but have had to resort to 6 metres of USB cable as this thing is guarranteed to lose its wireles set-up every time it is switched off (but not mains disconnected). For the so called excellent qualities of CANON printers I find it staggering that for a couple of extra bucks they could have fitted an NVRAM chip to solve the problem. If I EVER get this one working again I may accept the problems but cannot rely on it. Epson is beginning to look like a better option.

Go to March 13th message above and click on link. The printer does have internal memory which you can set to match the staic ip address you set in your router, but as the previous post indicated you have to have the correct mode set on printer (three options: USB, wired, wireless)

same problem . Just switched from my usual HP printer because of inkjet cartridge head issues but it was always reliable to stay connected wirelessly

I am giving up and Going to throw it in the garbage and go buy a HP, I bought a wireless printer to be able to print wireless, have done what they said at least 50 times.

I keep having the same problem over and over.

When I have not used my printer for a few days, it decides to go off line - and nothing I can do gets me back online.

I cannot print as it give the following message:

Support Code : 300 The printer does not respond. Make sure that the printer is plugged in, powered-on, and properly connected to your computer.

what do I do?

I connect to the printer wirelessly and all my computers are Macs.

Once I set a static ip address in router for printer that is outside the DHCP range, I have never had a problem since. In prior messages within thiss thread, I explained the step by step solution and provided a link to another thread for more in depth rationale
