Worked fine for many years with no issues. I have upgraded firmware. It appears to work only with a USB cable plugged in. That is not good for me as I share the printer throughout the house.
The answers I see or solutions offered are only to go to a cable instead of using network. Note printing functions are fine.
Is it time to switch to an HP printer?

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The imageCLASS MF4770n is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them Monday through Friday at 1-866-443-8002.
Hope this helps!

Greetings,
Given that scanning still works via USB seems to indicate that there is no problem with the scanner on your printer.
You've tested with a wide array of operating systems but have not provided information about any errors (when scanning) you may have received.
If you can copy and print while connected to wireless, your device is probably functioning correctly. Thus far, I don't think anything indicates that you should "switch brands" unless that would make you feel better.
When the device is connected to wireless and you have print and scan drivers installed, what happens when you try to scan?
Have you installed the network/usb scanning patch during troubleshooting. It's instructions must be followed completely.
Have you tried using the native scan utilities in (example) windows? What are the results.
I'm all for using older peripherals in some cases. I have the original Logitech trackball PS/2 that I still love. Your printer is now 13 years old. Maybe you owe it to yourself to upgrade it alongside your numerous operating systems and hardware. However, I think there's still some more troubleshooting you can do before making that decision.
