MF Scan Utility does not see imageCLASS MF743Cdw on MacOS Sonoma 14.3.1

Software: Canon MF Scan Utility Version 1.10.14

Computer: Mac mini 2018 intel, macOS Sonoma 14.3.1

The scan utility used to work perfectly. 

Now I get the error "Cannot communicate with any of the scanners. The scanners may not be connected, or may be turned off"

This is a bogus message because I see the scanner using Mac's Image Capture app.

Please do not reply with the usual "reinstall the drivers", "reinstall the application", "reboot the computer", "reboot the printer": none of this works.
