I can log into the admin page of the printer with both WiFi and wired LAN connections, and running the Setup program says that it’s installed the printer, but using the Add Printer function from the Systems Settings pane either doesn’t see the printer, or will sees the printer, and it will show as idle until you try to print, in which case it shows as offline. This has been a consistent behavior across the last three versions of macOS. Both the wired and wireless connections are set up as static IPs, and Setup will (usually) see the printer, communicate with it, tell me that I’m good to add the printer, and then either have it not show up in the Add Printer function, or show up, but not be able to print. We bought the G7020 to replace our old Pixma that died, and I’m thinking that we made a big mistake, especially since it looks as if Canon is no longer supporting this printer.

There is a setup package for macOS Sonoma that was released in April 2024. Did the printer not function correctly with that update?

Redownloaded everything to whatever the latest version being served by the Canon website is. Plus, the setup program goes out to the internet to check for updates when you run it (or claims be doing so). I've tried so many times I've lost track. Simply not functional, and, considering that fact that I have five Mac systems in house, none of which can print now, makes me more than a little peeved.

Have you called Canon support?

I haven't, but I've seen a thread here where someone did, and was informed that they were no longer supporting the G7020.

Thanks for joining the conversation, GVDub! Our support team still covers the PIXMA G7020. If you want to call us, you'll want to register your printer first right HERE and that'll give you access to all of your support options including our 800 number.
Hope this information helps!
