CanoScan not allowing me to setup - "Error. This software cannot be started as it is in use by anoth

Hi there! I am trying to set up my CanoScan LIDE 300, however whenever I download the setup it is giving me an error saying "This software cannot be started as it is in user by another device" (I have attached a screenshot below). The download is called "mac-lide300-1_0-mcd.dmg" from https://ij.manual.canon. I have tried researching the issue to solve this however I have not found anything helpful. Any advice or information would be very appreciated!

Hi Grace2,

To use your CanoScan LiDE 300 with your Mac (using Ventura), please follow these steps:

1.  Click the Apple in the upper left corner.

2.  Click on System Settings.

3.  Scroll to bottom of left side and click on Printers & Scanners.

4.  Click the Add Printer Scanner or Fax button on the right.

5.  Once the Add Printer window appears, connect the USB cable from your LiDE 300 to your Mac.

6.  When your LiDE 300 appears in the list, click on it and click Add.

Your CanoScan LiDE 300 will then be installed.

You can use the IJ Scan Utility Lite to scan with your CanoScan LiDE 300.

Hello!

I had the same problem, and was now trying to download the IJ Scan Utility Lite with the link you posted, but it didn't work. The error message keeps popping up.

Any tips?

Thank you

Hi viniciusalves,

Oh no, that sounds super frustrating when you're just trying to get your scanner up and running! That "software in use" error can definitely be a tricky one, especially when you've already done some digging.

Let's try a few things to see if we can get past this:

  • Restart your Mac: Sometimes a fresh start is all it takes to clear any lingering processes.
  • Check Activity Monitor: After restarting, open your Mac's Activity Monitor (you can find it in Applications > Utilities). Look for any processes related to "Canon" or "CanoScan" and if you find any, select them and click the "X" button in the toolbar to force quit them. Then try the installation again.
  • Disconnect and Reconnect: Make sure your CanoScan LiDE 300 is disconnected from your Mac during the software installation, and only connect it when the installer prompts you to.
  • Verify Latest Drivers: It's always a good idea to double-check the main support page for the latest drivers and full installation instructions for your specific macOS version. You can find it here: CanoScan LiDE 300 Support Page

If these steps don't resolve the issue, please let us know! We're here to help you get scanning.
