Cannot get MX922 to respond to Windows 11 computer

mbrunel

My MX922 that is about 8-10 years old has stopped responding to the Windows 11 computer it's connected to via wifi.

I did not change any printer settings prior this malfunction. The only change in my computer set up was the recent installment of a VPN. But after trying to print once and realizing the VPN was interfering with the printer, I began disconnecting from the VPN when printing. I was able to print a few times after this, so I am not sure if the now-disabled VPN has anything to do with the current lack of communication between the computer and the printer. Was something disrupted by the VPN that persists even now that the VPN is disconnected?

Since the printer quit working, in addition to disconnecting the VPN, I have done the following:

-- Stop and start print spooler
-- Unplug printer for 10 minutes and restart printer and computer
-- Check for driver and other updates on the Canon site
-- Uninstall and reinstall printer (computer said printer successfully installed, but still nothing happens when I try to print except an error message saying the printer is not responding)
-- Reset the settings on the printer's Setup menu

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi mbrunel,

Please follow these steps on your PIXMA MX922:

1.  Please press the MENU button on your PIXMA MX922 one time.

2.  Use the down arrow to select the wrench and screwdriver icon and press OK.

3.  Use the left arrow to select Device Settings and press OK.

4.  Use the down arrow to select LAN settings and press OK.

5.  Use the down arrow to select Confirm LAN settings and press OK.

6.  Select WLAN setting list and press OK.

Using the down arrow, please view the IPv4 Address and then write this number down.

Next, please go to your computer:

1.  On your computer, please press the Windows key on your keyboard and the letter R, then let both go.

2.  In the Run window that appears, please type CMD and click OK.

3.  In the Command Prompt window that appears, please type:

PING and the number that you wrote down.  For example, if you wrote down 192.168.1.34, please type this:

ping.jpg

and then press the Enter key on your keyboard.  Please do not use 192.168.1.34, please use the numbers you wrote down.

If you got "Timed Out", that means that your MX922 and computer are not connected to same network.

If you got "Destination host unreachable", please follow these steps:

1.  Turn your PIXMA MX922 off.

2.  Please go to your router and unplug the power cord from the back of your router.

3.  Wait 1-2 minutes and then reconnect the power cord to your router.

4.  When your router is back online, please turn your PIXMA MX922 back on.

5.  Once your PIXMA MX922 is on, please follow all of the steps above again.

If your PING result shows "Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0", please attempt to print.

If the issue persists, please try disabling IPv6 on your PIXMA MX922.  To do this, please follow these steps:

1.  Press the MENU button on your PIXMA MX922.

2.  Repeatedly press the down arrow to select the wrench and screwdriver icon and press OK.

3.  Use the left arrow to select Device settings and press OK.

4.  Use the down arrow to select LAN settings and press OK.

5.  Use the down arrow to select Other settings and press OK.

6.  Use the down arrow to select TCP/IP settings and press OK.

7.  Use the down arrow to select IPv6 and press OK.

8.  Select Yes and press OK.

9.  Select Enable/disable IPv6 and press OK.

10. Use the down arrow to select Disable and press OK.

11. Press the MENU button.

12. Turn your PIXMA MX922 off, wait 30 seconds or so and then turn your PIXMA MX922 back on.

Once back on, please follow all of the steps provided again.

Hello Patrick: thanks for the reply. I resolved the issue somehow, trying a number of different things before I got your reply. So I don't know which fix fixed it. Thank you for your help.
