PIXMA MX452 Cannot Connect Scanner to Mac

I have a new mac laptop (first mac). My printer/scanner is a Canon MX452. The printer shows up in my list of printers in System Preferences "Printer & Scanners" and I can print from my Mac to the printer. I've got the printer set up and working. However, the same device is also a scanner, but it does not list itself as one there and gives no scan option.

I downloaded the scan driver from the Canon website, and I have "Canon IJ Scan Utility" in my applications. I can open that, but when I try to scan it says Scanner is turned off or USB cable is disconnected. My scanner is on, but I don't have the computer attached to it with a cable. I want to wirelessly scan (just like I can print).

On my scanner when I try to go to settings to detect this Mac it does not see it and offer it as an option.

Is there a way I can get the wireless scanning set up? Any ideas? Or must I hook up with a cable (which I would have to buy an adaptor for etc.)?

(FYI the wireless scanning does work for my PC.)

What posting were you referring to when you said the solution is right here? Sould you provide a link to the downloadable driver? Thanks.

I just purchased a Canon Pixma G7020 and have set it up wirelessly. I have been able to print from my computer but not scan. I downloaded the Scanner Utility and tried to set it up. It's not recognizing the scanner. I get the same message as mentioned in earlier posts.

I tried the Image Capture solution mentioned in a previous post, and Image Capture sees the scanner but the Canon Scanner Utility does not.

I tried to scan directly from the printer/scanner itself, using the panel, but that requires saving a scanned image to the computer. Since the machine doesn't work wirelessly, the only save option requires me to connect the machine via a USB cable rather than wirelessly.

Needless to say this is frustrating! Part of why I bought this printer was that I read that many things could be done using web-based software rather than the hard-to-read panel. But if the software doesn't work, that the option is not viable.

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? Did Canon support offer any solutions?

Thanks

Hi DianeWF,

There could be a few things that are causing this issue and It is recommended that you speak with one of our chat agents. To get to the chat feature, click HERE.  Once in the chat box, ask to speak to a live person. You will be asked to create a Canon account and once that is done, you will be able to connect with one of our chat agents Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 8:00 pm ET, excluding holidays.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, Arthur.

This morning I tried the utility again, and this time it worked. I have no idea why as nothing changed in my configuration. But if the problem reoccurs, I will do as you suggested. Thanks for your help.

I chatted with a Canon person on line and was told the latest iOS did not support wireless scanning with my Pixma MX522. Use of Apple’s image capture app was suggested.instead.

Thanks. I'm not using the latest Mac OS. As I mentioned in the reply to the previous person who offered a solution, when I tried this utility this morning, it recognized the scanner and worked. Image Capture has many few choices then the utility and it also doesn't save the file to your computer unless you connect via a USB cable.

I agree that Apple’ s image capture app is sub-optimal. I would have stayed with my older iOS had I known that I would lose wireless scanning by upgrading.

I've stayed with my older OS to ensure compatability with a number of other programs that I use. I don't think a lot of programs keep up with the OS changes.

After days of struggling, and reinstalling Canon software, i finally came across this thread, which I think answers my quesiton (which was what i was suspecting all along).

I have a PIXMA MG5520 which has worked great for years.  I only scan occasionally, and I believe that the scanning function must have become nonfunctional when I upgraded to Catalina (OS 10.15.5)

Very disappointing.  But, thanks to the community for helping confirm my suspicions.

Update (and success!!)

I came back to the Canon site to see whether a solution might have appeared.  I poked around a bit in the Knowledgebase, and came across mention of installing the ICA Driver Ver.4.1.3a (Mac), which I found on the PIXMA MG5500/5520 software/driver page.

I downloaded, installed, and voila! I can now scan to my Mac.  Hurray!!

Scan icon is disabled in the "Guide Menu" of My Garden Image. I am using this software in MAC. Can you advise how this can be resolved?
