MF653Cdw - cannot scan to email - tried "Solved" solution

I purchased my MF653Cdw printer/scanner in 2022. I had issues setting up Scan to Email, but found a solution on this post and was able to scan prior to my current issue. https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Office-Printers/imageCLASS-MF644Cdw-Setting-up-quot-Scan-to-Email...

I haven't scanned anything since 2024, and now suddenly I can't scan to email anymore.

I've revisited that post and have seen some 2024 comments, but still cannot scan. It looks like Google does not allow some 3rd party apps to use App Passwords. Not sure if that's the issue.

My printer is basically useless as a scanner, as I cannot find a solution. Has anyone been able to make recent changes o their settings in UI Remote to be able to scan?

I'm using Windows 11, updated firmware for printer yesterday.

Thanks.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one have this issue. I recently had to wipe my computer and redownload the software and driver. To be honest I think it's the updated software. Now that I have seen your message I'm going to upload the older software and see if that fixes the problem. I will let you know.

Greetings ,

I have two Canon lasers, both are configured to scan to email using Google.  Both working without problems.

Smtp server is smtp.gmail.com

Username is full email address

For the password, you need to create an app password in your Gmail account.

Port number is 587

Security is START TLS

I know it can seem a little complicated, but really it's not.

On the configuration screen there's a test button, upper right hand side.  If it fails it'll gives you ann error code.

Give things another go and let me know what error message you're receiving.

Thanks for the reply. The issue for me is the instructions for an app password don't seem to work for me anymore. This is typically what I'm seeing to set up an app password, but I don't see these options anymore:

  1. Log in to your Gmail account
  2. Go to Manage your Google Account
  3. Select Security on the left-hand side
  4. Under Signing in to Google, select 2-Step Verification
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select App Passwords
  6. Search for the app password you want to find
  7. Click the App passwords option in the search results
