Proper software downloaded Printer has long history of faithful printing. Connect is USB printer cable. Test page will not print. Suggestions? Please.

For USB devices, not just printers, its best to install the drivers first before connecting a device. Or not doing so until prompted. If you have 3rd party anti-virus installed, this could also cause issues. The printer should be connected directly to the computer, and not to a hub or adapter.
If you connected the device before running the installer, I would remove the printer from Printers and Scanners, uninstall the drivers, restart your system and run the installer again and not connect the device until prompted to do so.
