We recently had a long power outage that exceeded the UPS run time so everything including the router and the MF4420w shut down. When Power resumed every other device reconnected, including our washing machine on the back porch. But, our MF4420w which is inches away from the Deco router would not reconnect.
Setting up WiFi again fails every time. The printer cannot see the inches away router SSID. Manually entering the SSID fails. WPS fails. I have “optimized" the router hoping it chooses an uncrowded channel. That did t help.
Assigning a fixed IP address to the printer MAC address didn’t help.
Scanning with a Raspberry Pi finds the SSID with no problem.
Why is it that two dozen diverse devices have no problem connecting but the Canon printer fails?

Greetings,
Is the printer within range of any other wireless broadcasts?
If so does it "see" any of them?

Yes, it sees two neighbors SSIDs. Other devices also see the same two.

Miracles do happen. My wife, who is in Thailand, just sent me (on Saipan) a message saying that it’s now working. Since we made so many changes we can’t know which one worked. Whatever it was, it took several hours. Apparently, great patience is required.

Although this is working now there are a few things that I don’t understand. Before we got the printer connected it showed up on the router's offline clients list as:
Canon37c1f6 with MAC 14-D4-24-F4-15-98
After connecting it shows up on the active clients list as:
Canonb141c2 with MAC 74-2F-68-19-0D-51
Why different name and MAC address?
Sometimes it shows up as:
AzureWave with the same MAC address.
I'm assuming this is because Canon uses Azure Wave wireless hardware, but why does the name change seemingly at random?

Another hour long power outage and once again the Canon printer won’t connect. Does this mean we have to now manually connect after every power outage? We’ve had this printer for a while and this is the first time we’ve experienced this power outage glitch.

Bottom line here is that this printer will reconnect to the WiFi network, but only when it's good and ready. Maybe after a day. Maybe after three. Another Mystery.
