SX720 HS won't stay connected to laptop during import

I have upgraded my laptop hard drive and now when I try to connect my SX720 HS via wifi to my laptop again it connects but not long enough to download the pictures from the camera. After a couple seconds, the camera disconnects from the laptop. My laptop is running Windows 10 Home edition.

Hi jcmadlung,

Is your camera battery fully charged?  Try it again with a battery that is 100% charged.

Hi and welcome to the forum:
You can save yourself a lot of hassle and work more efficiently if you do the following, using either a built-in or USB-connected SD card reader.

Follow this procedure - it is the fastest and more reliable method and requires no software:

  1. Shut the camera down and remove the SD card
  2. Place said card in a SD card reader, either built-in to your computer or via a USB port. When the card is connected, it should be seen as a removable drive by your file manager.
  3. Access the card, and the folder DCIM, that is where your images are.
  4. Select all the images and copy them across to a location on your computer's hard disc, just as you would any other files.
  5. After checking the files are all there, remove the card (for WIndows machines, you should use the Eject feature which you access by RIGHT+CLICK on the SD card icon).
  6. Return the card to your camera
  7. Turn it on and format the card clean using the camera's Format command.

I do not recommend using Wi-Fi to transfer photos from your camera to a laptop. For one, it is prohibitively slow, and the slow transfer speeds means an increased opportunity for RF interference to corrupt data.’

Using a USB cable is at least 10x faster, probably closer to 100x faster.  Or, remove the memory card and use a card reader connected to your laptop.
