PowerShot SX70 HS screen freezes after beeping 3 times

My SX70 freezes occasionally. I first hear 3 quick beeps then the screen freezes.  I have to open the battery compartment and partially pull out the battery for 10 seconds before putting it back in.  Sometimes it happens when I accidentally point it to close to the sun or other bright light source, other times I have no idea why it does this. This is not the only problem with the SX70 - I expected better from Canon.

Did you purchase this camera new or used?  When did this behavior start?

Are you using a Canon battery of known good quality?  What brand and model of SD card are you using?  Is it full size or micro SD with an adapter?

What troubleshooting steps have you performed?  Have you performed a settings reset?

We created a new thread, likely due to the other thread's age, or because it was not the same issue or camera model.

I purchased the camera new.

-Canon battery

-Sandisk Extreme Pro 128gb SDXC

I have not tried to troubleshoot this - other than resetting the camera, what can I do?  I don't want to do a reset because I doubt it will work but also because I spent many months juggling different settings trying to get consistent sharp photos. It's not a task I want to do again.  I use back-button focus on the SX70.
