Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PowerShot S100 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

What happens when you try to take a photo?

It just on the object I want to take a picture of even when I hold it down to take the photo the camera icon with red is flashing

You mean the hands? That means it detects camera shaking.

Put it in Auto mode and take it outside on a sunny day.

I’m trying but it won’t take the photo

Man, I can't even get the manual. Can you show us a picture of the screen when it is on?

The S100 had a few odd features like Face, Blink and Smile Detection that could affect how quickly the shutter responded in certain situations. One of these "features" may have been unknowingly enabled and causing you some erratic behavior.

Download a copy of the S100 user manual if you don't have one and start around pg. 47 for instructions on re-setting it to its original, as new state. Please let us know if that helps.

But were you able to effectively reset the camera? If you can, try another freshly charged battery. Try a different memory card if you have one, or borrow one if necessary. Use only a full size SD card, not a micro SD card with an adapter.
