It was fine, battery was showing low so I put the charged one in so I woudn't get caught with a deadd one. Now there is no response at all. Never had any problem of any kind with this camera. Not sure what to try. Thanks

Well here is the list from your manual of possible causes that you can take care of anything else would require service.
I would pay special attention to the batter door and see if thats closing correctly as well as the contacts on the insie of the battery comprtment

Thanks, I've check those, everything clicks securely closed. Cleaned contacts too.
It occurs to me that I recently removed the memory card to show someone and put it back, it's the first and only time it's been out of the camera in the years since I bought it. Seems like more than a coincidence that now it stops working. Are those little scandisk cards disposable or need replacing after a period of time and use?
Is there a safety lock on the shutter? I just take pics and upload them and have never learned all the features because that is all I wanted it for. Perhaps it locked accidently?

Well as for the scan disk card it should last for many years but unless its forced back into the camera the wrong way it wont keep the camera from turning on. Unless it is shorted out somehow
So is the camera turning on now ? Try turning it on without the memory card it should turn on and give you a message "memory card missing". If it turns on then the card is corrupt.
lol and read some of the manual its a powerful camera I bet your not gtting the full use out of it!!
Hers the link to the user manual

I tried with the memory card out, still nothing.
I guess it does have a lot of features but I'm 'tech stupid' so I haven't checked out all stuff it does. It worked fine 5 days ago, last time I used it and uploaded to my pc. Maybe I'll buy a used one for cheap on Amazon, since it seems this one is going to need repair or something.

Are you sure the battery is Ok? Sometimes they say charged but die immediately when trying to use it ?
And the battery door closes right? Nothing on it cracked off? There is a tab on there that lets the camera know the door is closed it might have broken off.
Ive done that also bought a used camera the same model I had becuase I had bought accessories for it and didnt want to waste them
A new battery is cheaper...just saying.
I think if I were you Id get a new battery then if that didnt work Id look for a used one

I have 2 batteries, so I always have one charged. Neither will start the camera. The door clicks closed, the battery tab is intact and working. The only thing that is amiss is the little door to the USB cable port has never closed properly in years and the covering fell off last time I used it. That little hatch hasn't closed tightly in years, it just doesn't engage. The plastic cover just fell off. I don't know if that has anything to do with the operation of the camera itself. I tried using the cable to connect to the PC but again, nothing happens.

No that little cover has nothing to do with it, it is just a plain ole cover.
So its not the batteries, the battery cover, the battery compartment, the memory card either...looks like you might have to do some shopping then ?
