I just purchase an ELPH 190IS and I've tried everything to get it to connect to my laptop and nothing works, it always fails. I am running windows 7 64 bit home and school. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

If I use the cable to transfer pics do I need a balun and does the one without it also charge? I'm learning more every day. Now if I could just get my camera connected wirelessly. Thanks, Mike

I have no idea. Instead of looking for the cheapest cable that you can find, buy a quality, low noise cable. Problem solved.

No you don't need one. I have several cables without them that work fine.
And it is not a Balun, it is a Ferrite bead
A balun is an impdedance matching transformer that converts a *balanced* signal (+/- to ground) to *unbalanced* ( a signal with a + and a ground).

It had an extra step I did not see anywhere else.
Thanks again everyone
