My Canon MF462dw is wifi networked with a mix of Macs and Win-PCs, and I can print ok from any of them. The MF462dw has an optical scan resolution of 600 dpi, and the Win-PC version of VueScan works well up to 600 dpi. However, the macOS version of VueScan cannot scan from the MF462dw at higher than 300 dpi. I worked with VueScan tech support for several days, trying many things and different VueScan versions without any success; they finally gave up in frustration, blaming Canon and Apple for using a proprietary code that VueScan can't work around.
Note: I had updated the MF462dw's firmware and macOS drivers to the latest versions from Canon.
With that said, I can scan from my Mac using the MF462dw at 600 dpi via Apple's "Image Capture" app, so it is not a hardware or macOS limitation. However, I would like to use a scanning software app with a better interface and more options than what Apple's bare-bones Image Capture app offers. For the macOS, are there any recommended options similar to VueScan but will support a networked Canon MF462dw at its full 600 dpi resolution? Thanks.

Greetings ,
All downloads for the mf462dw are available on the device's support portal.

As mentioned, the MF scan utility is available. I would expect it could provide more options than what Mac might use natively by default or at least compliment image capture and VueScan.
Here are Mac specific instructions for the MF scan utility.

It makes sense to you with Image Capture able to scan at 600dpi that it would be something to do with VueScan, rather than Canon. However there are other drivers available like Canon's MF Scan Utility and for something more feature-rich there is ExactScan for Mac (which also supports scanning from the FujiScan).

Thanks for the reminder about the MF Scan Utility; I had downloaded it originally with the other Canon files, but had not tried it until now as it looked like it was very old (from 2014 according to the "about" menu). Surprisingly, it does still work with the modern 64-bit macOS, scans at 600 dpi, and it is better than the native Image Capture built-into the macOS. However, it does have the look and feel of an app that had been ported over from Windows 7 back in the day to work in an early version of OSX, but I suppose that would be nit-picking since it is free. Thanks again!

Thanks for the info about ExactScan for Mac ... I had not heard of that software before nor had it come up in my previous searches online ... I'll check it out.
