I recently bought this device from Dell:
imageCLASS D1650 - All in One, Wireless, Mobile Ready, Duplex Laser Printer with 3 Year Warranty
According to the manual and photo of the device on Dell & Canon’s website, there is supposed to be a NFC module attached next to the screen. There is not. Is this something I’d have to buy? I don’t even see a spot where it could be “plugged in” or attached next to the screen.

What is "NFC"? What do you mean by "supposed to be"?
Are you talking about technology called Near Field Communications?

That’s correct - if you check the photo on Canons website for the D1650, there is a NFC module attached next to the screen, and also in the Manual it says that model has NFC capabilities. But mine that I received does not have the module installed. I’ll attach photos

Are you sure the machine you have is a D1650 and not a D1620? What's the nameplate on the front say?
Yes, looks like the D1650 (not a D1620) has the NFC module. So if your D1650 doesn't have it, take it up with Dell or Canon Support. Maybe you got a 1620 in a 1650 box?

Yup, that’s the first thing I checked. It’s a D1650.
