imageCLASS D420 "OUT OF TONER CHANGE TONER" error on new cartridge

I have an OEM Canon 104 cartridge, just opened, and it's giving me this error.  User manual just says "toner completely out, change cartridge", but I just bought this new for 80 bucks!  anyone have any suggestions?

my Cannon mf8580cdw wont send emails,

Will Canon build an ImageClass D860 driver for Windows 8?  HP has a Windows 8 driver for my 21 year old HP Laser Jet 4 but Canon doesn't have a driver for my 4 year old Canon D860.  Come on now!
