I am curious about user's experience with Canon toner cartridges and end of life warnings.
My experience with starter toner cartridges in my MF634 is that Canon generates end of life warnings after two years, even though toner has 20% left.
If I install new toner cartridges (045 for the MF634), will I start receiving end of life warnings after two years even though the toner is not exhausted? Or does this only happen for starter cartridges?
Does the end of life warning depend on when the toner cartridge was manufacturered? I was looking at 045 cartridges on ebay and some of them were manufacturered in 2017 or 2018.
Why are the cyan toner cartridges more expensive than the yellow or magenta toner cartridges?

Greetings,
Both of my Canon printers are less than 2 yrs old.
I suspect however, any Canon toner might display this warning, not just starter cartdiges.

I guess you'll find out soon enough.
I was hoping to hear from some long time users who might already received the end of life warning.
I hope the starter cartridges are treated differently than normal toner cartridges and that normal cartridges do not receive end of life warnings after only two years. So annoying if true.

I've had my MF643Cdw for many years ... I just replaced C/M/Y cartridges after only 11 months (8-21-23 to 7-14-24). Very little color printing was done, and all three "expired" at the same time with end-of-life message. For $100 per cartridge, "lifetime" should be MUCH longer!

Greetings,
Is it possible the toner you purchased sat on a store shelf or in a warehouse for many years before you purchased it?

I’m almost certain they did not, but no longer have the boxes to check - sent back for recycling. Dates on cartridges I just purchased from Staples and installed are: CY: 2023-09-09H5; YL: 2022-10-11H3; MJ: 2022-10-14H3. Thank you.

"End of life" warning can be anything . . . 20%, more, less. Use your cartridges until they actually ARE empty and don't obsess about it. Also, when you get the warning, take the cartridge out and shake it gently side-to-side. This redistributes the toner evenly across the cartridge. There could be more toner drawn from different areas across it, triggering the warning if level is low wherever the sensor is. This commonly shuts off the warning for a while more.
I have a Canon MF8350cdn and two Canon inkjets. I've bought toner and ink from Canon and different aftermarket sellers. I've not seen any place that has different prices for different C-M-Y colors. That's odd. Have you looked elsewhere?

Shook and reinstalled old C-M-Y cartridges to test. Received "Continue prt (qlty not guaranteed)" msg but this time was allowed to print both color and B&W, which I could not do before. Not sure what impact installing and using the new cartridges had on the old cartridges working again. The Consumables Status Report on the reinstalled old cartridges list C-M-Y level at 0%. I don't believe they are at 0% but have no way to check. I will be more systematic and thorough the next time I run into this situation. Thank you for all the feedback!
