I recently purchased a new Canon black ink cartridge from a big-box store and yesterday inserted it per instructions, as I have for many years with this printer. However, "Support Code 1755" then flashed on the screen with the command to replace the black ink cartridge -- which of course I just did. Is this indicative of a defective Canon cartridge or perhaps an internal printer issue?

For clarity: 1755 Cause The ink has run out. What to Do To maintain both machine and print quality, the machine cannot continue printing under the ink out condition. Cancel printing and replace the ink tank before printing again.
I would try to reseat the cartridge, powercycle the printer...the usual stuff first. If that doesn't work, try another cartridge. If the problem is still there, contact Canon Customer Service.
