After an unexpected power disruption, the alarm lamp comes on and the printer is inoperative. I may need to know the error code as part of the fix, but I have no clue on how to find or where to find it. The screen on the printer is completely black. Windows (10) merely reports "error" but nothing else (that I can find).

Hello,
It does look like the printer needs service. If the printer will not start after a power sure, you can try unplugging the printer from the power and then pressing the power button 10 times while the printer is unplugged. After that, you can plug the printer into a different power source and you can try turning it on.
If the printer still does not start up and show you anything on the display, the printer would need service. To view what service options are available, you can log into your MyCanon account or contact support over the phone at 1-800-652-2666.
