The scan quality is poor when scanning from the touchpad and cannot be changed.
More specifically when selecting Scan/File/Send Settings/, Data Size setting has no effect. All three settings produce file with the same size and poor quality.
How do you control scan quality from the touchpad?

Hi, frunobulax.
The 150 DPI is a limitation when scanning from the operation panel to email, especially when using the document feeder. For a higher scan resolution, you will need to control the scan from the software on the computer. You may also try changing the scan quality to High: Greater details.
Please keep in mind that, when emailing the scan directly from the printer, the data for that scan must first fit on the printer. If scan quality is doubled from 150 DPI to 300 DPI, the amount of storage space required for that document or image is approximately quadrupled. This is not as much of an issue for scanning and sending a photo (typically sent 1 at a time), but becomes a problem for multi-page and mutli-colored documents (PDF format).
The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is designed with faxing in mind, and faxing generally caps out in quality at 150 DPI. You may be able to get up to 300 DPI through the ADF.
600 DPI is generally the ceiling when scanning from the MF Scan Utility on any modern computer. The MF743Cdw is designed primarily for business apps, which generally don't need more than 300 DPI. The greatest range of scanning output will be through the platen, and with "photo" as the type.

Hi frunobulax.
To what file format are you scanning? For document scanning, PDF format has a restricted image quality (150 DPI / PPI). In the case that you're scanning to an image format, JPG/JPEG is a "lossy" format; try instead using TIFF, which is "lossless".
If you are scanning using the flatbed, make sure the protective packaging has been removed, then clean the platen glass with a clean, dry cloth. If the problem occurs when using the document feeder, clean the feeder element.

Thank you for the response.
I was scanning pdf. 150 dpi is very low quality for douments with graphics.
It should be possible to scan at higher than 150 dpi dpi when scanning pdf from the tocuhscreen.
It is possible to scan at up to 600dpi for pdf from the Cannon MF Scan Utility in Windows 10.
Why can't this be done from the touchscreen? Is there a way to get higher than 150dpi pdf scans from the touchscreen? I have looked in the configuration settings and can find no way to adjust this
