After upgrading MF Toolbox in order to get it to stop hanging all the time, now I have a new error:

Could not scan because the originals are not placed in the feeder or an error occurred.
Check the scanner status and then try to scan again.

The originals are definitely in the feeder. It made the little loading sound that it always makes you put papers in the feeder. Is it possible to downgrade back to the old edition of MF Toolbox I was using before? It did not seem to have this problem.
v4.9.1.1.mf16 for Windows. Running Windows 8.1.

Any solution to this problem? It's happening with Windows 8.1 and MF4450

So that I can better assist you, may I ask how the drivers and MF Toolbox software were installed onto your computer? Did you install the drivers from the installation disk, or were the drivers downloaded from the Canon website?
