Hi, can I use my Canon - imageCLASS MF642Cdw Wireless Color All-In-One Laser Printer in France?  Purchased about 4 years ago in France.

I looked at the specs on the Canon website and can't find anything about  whether this will switch from 120V to 220V.

I'm a senior who isn't that tech savvy. Thanks!

Greetings,

I worked in IT for several years in a previous life.  Here are some reasons why you don't want to drag a printer from the US to France.

Cost of shipping (risk of damage)

Power connections / requirements

Toner availability

After years of supporting people who tried and failed to "save a buck", I can assure you its less expensive in the long run to buy a printer intended for sale in the country or region where you will have an extended visit or reside.  That printer will have the correct power connection.  You will be able to get toner or ink easily.

US printer in Europe > If the printer needs service, it might be difficult to get support, parts or warranty.  In the end, we found that buying a printer locally was the most cost effective.  We would then have employees who were at the end of their contract donate or gift their printer, monitor, etc to a church, school or charity.

I know the MF642Cdw was not inexpensive, but I'm sure you can find someone here (family member)? who would be happy to take it off your hands.

My recommendation is don't do it.

In terms of converting, I was advised to get a "step-up" converter.

But you are also saying that getting sevice or toners will be a hassle?  I will be in a major city.
