BarCode on document will not copy - causes partial copy in middle of page

We have an MF242DW printer, copier, scanner. When copying any document that contains a barcode on the page, the copy is only part of the page printed in the center of the paper with a 1/4 page blank on each side.  The bar code is not in the copy. This does not happen when printing the same document from a scan or sent from a file in the computer.

We have covered the barcode and the document prints normally, with the barcode area showing only the paper covering it (of course).

This is a problem as we have documents that need to be copied signed and the barcode must show. This did not happen on any other printer we have had. What is the barcode doing to the copy function to result in this - and how do we get a complete copy including the barcode.

Thank you for any assistance.

Greetings,

What is the output document type set to?

Set the output to an image file type and see if this works.

This is not a file - it is a paper document on the glass. I just looked in the settings and see that it is set to "text/photo" - and there is nothing else I see to change.  Printing from a file to the printer from the computer prints correctly - but copies from the glass don't.

Hello 1775,

From what you are describing it looks like the copy settings are incorrect. If the paper size that shows up at the top of the window does not match the paper size of the document you are copying, it can cause the issue that you are describing. In the copy window, you can make sure the copy is set to 100% and the correct paper size. You can review the copy settings for the MF242 using the link HERE.

To provide additional troubleshooting steps or suggestions, we would need some additional information. If you can reply to this message with the information below, we can assist further.

  1. What is the size of the original that you are loading on the glass?
  2. What is the size of the paper that you are printing on?

The paper size is 8.5x11 and the copy size is set to 8.5x11 and the page on the glass is 8.5 x 11. All other copies are perfect.  Ones before and ones after copying a page with a barcode on the page.  If the paper size was incorrect on the Canon then all pages copied would be incorrect. There is something about the barcode on the page that is copied that causes the issue.  We are wondering if there is some legal issue involving documents with barcodes that is built into the machine that causes this to happen.
