Difference Between RP-108 and KP-108IN

According to the page 7 of the “SELPHY_CP1500_Advanced_User_Guide_EN”, the Selphy CP1500 can use both the RP-108 and the KP-108IN ink/paper packages. When I look at the descriptions of both, the only two differences I can find are in the packaging of the ink cassettes (2X54 or 3X36) and the price. 

Various venues have posts from users that indicate the overall quality might be better using the the RP-108 cassettes, but if there is a difference, it is only very slight so price should be the only consideration. 

More importantly, I can find nothing on Canon’s web site that mentions any difference, but if there is no difference, why would Canon go to the trouble of having two different styles of packaging for the same total amount of prints?

Has anyone found an official difference between the two types on the Canon website that I might have missed?

"Thanks to the demand for higher-volume printing on portable printers, we are happy to offer the RP Series which offers higher capacity ink cassettes so you can spend your time printing instead of changing ink."

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I read your posts in the 1D section of DPReveiw as well.

In regard to my question here, it still doesn’t make sense to me to make both configurations.   I would think it would be better from a manufacturing point of view to have one type.  Perhaps there is an advantage for three cassettes that outweighs the published reason above to have two in some instances. I guess it is possible the shelf life of the cassettes after the packaging is opened comes into play. That might make three advantageous to those who print infrequently.  I would think there would be some reason even if that is not it.   Thanks again.
