Canon Selphy CP1200 doesn't see new ink cartridges

I have a canon selphy CP1200. It was working not too long ago but it just started giving me an error that the ink cartridge is empty and I should replace it. I did just that but it still reads as empty. I tried various solutions including:

- restarting the printer.
- turning off, waiting a while and restarting the printer
- buying a new cartridge and trying that
- Trying a new image and a new tray of paper.
- print from computer instead of phone

I'm wondering if there's an issue with/damage to a sensor on the printer that senses the ink cartridge
I'm wondering if there's a way to reach out to canon for any other support or if there's anything else I can try. Also is there a way to repair these things or do I just have to throw it away and buy a new printer at this point?

Same issue here. I didn't use it for a while, printed one photo just fine, and in the second one the screen showed the cartridge was empty. Changed with a new one, twice, and nothing. The same error showed. Hopefully there is a way to fix it, it would be a shame to just have to toss it away.

@Arthur, yeah to confirm what caira said, it looks like there's no support available through directly contacting canon. Do you know of any other options?
