Pictures are from two different attempts with two different cartridges. Both are torn and completely ruined. Seems the paper grabbed it and pulled it through the back. I thought maybe the cartridge was bad do tried a new one and the exact thing happened. Anyone experienced this? Yes, I turned it off before replacing the cartridge and trying again.

While the cartridge is not totally ruined, if you disassemble it and roll a photo or two onto the take up reel. Being careful to feed the supply and take up ribbon under the metal roller and not loose he springs on the ends of the rolls. It will work.
however that printer is toast. Have 2 cp900’s one says the ribbon is empty, other eats ribbons. Both well out of warranty. Just bought a cp1500 since I have a stock of ink.
