Yb2-0081 front rubber for 8x25 IS binoculars.

I'm looking for a front rubber for my 8x25 IS binoculars, Part #Yb2-0081. I spoke with the gentleman at USCamera, the only non-Canon parts supplier that I could find and he said that they are out of stock and Canon will not sell them more. I called Canon Parts and they said that they could not sell me one because their supply is reserved for binoculars being serviced. This is pretty silly because the part is basically just a slightly beveled O Ring or gasket which goes around the outside of either objective lens. For a binoculars this nice Canon does a lousy job of making simple parts easily available.

Any suggestions on other part sources, or do I just find a gasket of the right size and shave it?

Hello,
Finding a replacement Canon YB2-0081 front rubber for your 8x25 IS binoculars is tricky since Canon restricts sales to serviced units. USCamera previously stocked it but is currently out.

Possible solutions:

  1. Check third-party sellers like eBay or specialty optics stores.
  2. Look for compatible O-rings with similar dimensions and modify if needed.
  3. Contact Canon Support to see if they can make an exception.

If you need a quick fix, a custom gasket might be the best option. Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
James Batson

Thanks. #3 was my first plan, but I hit a dead end with Canon. I think #2 is where I'm going.

Hello!

Welcome to the Canon Community! I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble obtaining the part you need for your binoculars. If you have the 8 x 25 IS model, I'm showing that we still repair them, which means we should still sell the parts.

Head over to https://canon.us/repair then on that page scroll down just a bit, you'll see a row of red buttons - below that is a button for parts and accessories - tap that, and you'll get a popup with the contact info for our parts team.

Spinning wheels Stephen. As my original post said, that was what I first did, but to no avail. Nevertheless I followed your recommendation, spoke with John in Canon Parts and was told that there is an "Allocation Stop" on this part, holding Canon's reserves for their service department and they absolutely could not sell me the part. I could, of course, arrange to send in the binoculars for a costly servicing just to replace what is a simple O ring. Although as you say, Canon "should sell the part" you do not.
