12x36IS Binocular Repair Services?

I recently bought a new 12x36IS III, but still have my older 12x36IS that is in need of repairs, as it stopped stabilizing!  They are still decent binoculars, and I'd like to have them repaired.

Time constraints led to buying the new 12x36IS III's but it is such a waste not to repair the older versions to either gift or sell to someone.

Support page shows  "12 X 36 IS has been retired. Product support is no longer available. Driver and content updates are not being made."

So here I am, asking if there is any support, maybe even 3rd party repair services or even parts I could try to replace myself?

Thanks for any help, even if it's somewhere to donate them, but I'd rather have them repaired!

(I don't see a binocular Board) George

Thanks for the response, it is the original 12x36IS model. so it seems it's over n done for, sadly, physically it is in good shape, no stickiness, optics are good, no deterioration, scratches, they've lived in the case 90% of the time, but it's too late I imagine for the Upgrade program, as I've already bought, registered the 12x36IS III, which we'll be using next weekend at the coast...

At an earlier time frame, maybe 15 years ago, our grandson panicked when a yellowjacket landed on them, de dropped them, didn't have the strap on, and that broke them, we had them repaired at that time, I need to dig deeper in my records, see when that happened, but looking online at the Canon site, I don't even find that they were registered, so maybe those records were wiped.. Anyway, a bit of history, they don't get constant use, just on trips to the coast, only to find them not working last year, so I'll see where it leads, but it's sounding more like a dead end.. A shame...

Hello George,

The only advice I can offer is to give Canon support a call. The team is great and the hold time is normally real short. They may be able to offer an alternative. 800-652-2666

I understand how confusing this might be, so I hope to help clarify.

It’s important to note that there have been three generations of this model (the original 12x36 IS, the IS II, and the current IS III). Here is how to tell them apart:

  • 12x36 IS (Original): Usually identified by a bulkier, more rounded body. These are legacy units and factory parts are generally no longer available.

  • 12x36 IS II: Slightly more compact than the original. These are also approaching or have reached OSL status in many regions.

  • 12x36 IS III: The current version. These are fully supported for standard factory service.

If your unit is a legacy model (Original or Mark II) and factory service is no longer an option, you may want to inquire about the Canon Upgrade Program. This allows you to trade in your retired unit for a discount on a new current-model pair. You can reach the support team to verify your serial number and check eligibility at 1-800-OK-CANON.
