Cannot access the menu, picture viewer, or any button functions on the camera

On my Canon Rebel SL1, I get the normal power on screen, clearing sensors power off screen, and the info screen for each setting on the dial.

It does however, act like it is perpetually busy and continues to try to adjust the lense. I get a "function not available" error for most of the buttons, but the menu and photo viewer buttons elicit no response at all.

This just started after running on continuous shooting mode to attempt to capture swifts in flight.

Try removing lens, remove battery, turn on and press shutter button.

Replace battery, power on and see what happens.
