What speedlite are you using FULL NAME please. Is it Canon or a 3rd Party manufacturer.

Bodies: EOS 5D Mark IV
Lenses: EF Trinity, EF 85mm F/1.8 USM
Retired Gear: EOS 40D, EF 50mm F/1.8 STM & EF 70-210mm F/4
Speedlites: 420EX, 470EX-AI, 550EX & 600EX II-RT

i tried with a culmann sl28, but this fires by shorting the midle pin and to ground(the outside of the hotshue, it is a two pin flash) and i tried with the metz 40af-4c this has more pinns, but still fires the same way. i can fire both flashes with a wire or another camera

What happens if you use a Canon speedlite.

In addition to setting the flash firing to enable under external speedlite control, you may have to set the flash mode to manual instead of ETTL in the 1DX II menu setting given these flashes may precede the introduction of ETTL.

The External Speedlite Control Menu doesn’t work with fully manual Speedlites. In fact E-TTL is grayed with one mounted. Older Canon Speedlites released prior to the introduction of the Speedlite Control Menu. Often have most options unavailable or grayed out. Making them unselectable or unchangeable from the camera’s menu screen. Below is an example picture of an older Canon Speedlite mounted. The particular Speedlite is the 420EX. As you see most options are not visible or grayed out. Only FEC and 1st & 2nd/ Rear Curtain sync are available from the camera’s menu screen with this speedlite. Other speedlites such as the 550EX have curtain sync grayed out. That must be set on the speedlite itself.
