can my t3i be directly hooked to an external harddrive to download video?

I'm shooting video & was wondering if i can hook up my camera to download video to an external hard drive?

I have a 550D, and it's not taking pictures at all.

It just worked last time then the nexy day it starts to say "BUSY" and doing some flash but doesnt work at all. Now I can't use it. I tried to remove the memory card, the battery, the lense but nothing happened.
