How is it possible to make a 18 m.p. Picture with a canon t31 slr?

Forgive a newbie but when I set my t31 camera to either raw or the highest jpeg settings, the saved pictures properties indicate that the picture is only  5 m.p.The camera is rated at 18 mega pixil...What gives?

My 60D battery door comes off because the plastic seats in the body for the hinge pin broke off.

Canon replaced the metal case of the 40D, 50D with a plastic one in the 60D.  Sure enough the case on my 60D broke where the hinge pin for the battery door is seated.  Now the door comes off whenever I open it.  Eventuall I will have to tape the door...
