This is the EOS R5 II - Retro Edition.
Canon did something similar in the past but only with the EOS RP (Gold Edition).

In addition to digital, I shoot a lot of film on Pentax (17, K2, K1000, ME, MX and sometimes KM), Nikon (F and FM), and with a Minolta SRT (really bad design). I also have a Mamiya RB67 and a 645.
I am looking forward to the rumored "RE1" retro-homage mirrorless "SLR" (yes, I know) to the AE1 SLR.

I'm not sure the "concept" would resonate with the target market for an R5/R5 II. To me the above concept camera looks like an EOS Elan II/IIE (50/50E) film camera vintage 1995.
My impression is that a "retro" style mirrorless camera would be more popular if it were and positioned and priced within the APS-C line as a variant of the R50, R10, R100, etc.
It would interest me if it were to look like a classic vintage 1976 AE-1. Perhaps introduced next year - 50 years after the original AE-1 was introduced?

That is what the rumors say is happening and I 100% believe everything I read on the Internet (massive, rolled-eyes sarcasm), but if Canon does that, I will be first in line.
I've read that the RE-1--I'd name it AE-1--will be a full-frame retro-styled R8 possibly displacing the R8. It would make tons of sense for it to replace the R50/R100 too.

I'm rooting for Canon to put the new R7 Mark 2 in AE-1 form factor and release it in February. I'm waiting on the new R7 as the controls on the old one were too wildly divergent from my likes. I wanted the specs of the R7 in a more R6 or even R10 controls format. So, I'm waiting for the R7 Mark 2. So now you have my hopes up that they just might release it in a retro format 🙂 I'd even give up the joystick for that level of tacti-cool.

Cool Concept. Have an old EOS Elan II in a box somewhere. Has that look. Always liked the mix from an asthetic point of view. Miss my AE-1 as well.

My first Canon was na Elan IIe and I very much loved it. Then later I added a 7e. Two really wonderful cameras. I miss the 7e a lot and wish I had not gotten rid of it when I went digital.

Count me as a "No thanks". I'd probably get it mixed up with one of my film cameras, and try to pry the back off to load a roll of 35mm. 😅

Just do it! After 20+ years of being away from film, I went back into it heavily 3 years ago. It's a lot of fun! Besides, the biggest benefit is it finally got me away from the "take five shots and pick the best one" mentality when I grab my digital cameras.

I still have my 7E....I think that will be one of my keepers for film. Just a darn good camera. Trying to cull out some old film cameras, as I have now embraced digital in full force too. Prob the T90 and 1N will go.

Agree Gary....I'm still getting used to the idea that I can have a "do over" on a shot. with the digital camera. Film was a bit more mysterious and exciting in that way. Had to get it right pretty fast to not waste film. Glad we can still do both.
