Why is the WiFi connection to the 80D so difficult

Randune23

All I want to do is to connect my iPhone to my Canon 80D to be able to start recording and make sure that I am in focus.  The connection app is lagging and very confusing.  Also why if my phone goes to sleep (to save battery) and I unlock my phone I have to restart the WiFi connection to my camera?  This is the ONLY camera that I have such a horrible time connecting to my iPhone.  Sony connects just fine and it's older than the Canon 80D.

I'm updating the firmware and hopefully that works.  In the latest Canon WiFi connection instructions it shows to tap your phone to the side of the Canon camera for a quick connect?  Yeah, that doesn't work either.

So what am I missing and why did Canon make it so incredibly difficult just to connect a iPhone to the camera???

Hi Randy,

We are sorry to hear of the trouble you are having connecting your 80D to the Camera Connect app.  If you have not done so, you may want to review our Knowledge Base guide at this link: https://canon.us/3m0c20v  You will note that it recommends disabling the smartphone’s power saving function, while connected to the camera.  We also have a tutorial video that walks you through the setup here:  https://canon.us/3zqSm8T
