My XSi stopped taking pictures. I can fully charge the battery, and it will take one or two pictures then quit. I can remove the battery and put it back it gives me a card error, there is nothing wrong with the card. The Screen on the back of the T6i quit working so you can't adjust anything on the camera. It is set to take multiple photos and since the screen doesn't work it is stuck on that. I bought my first canon in 1982. It was a AE1-Program, and it still works. Both of these digitals are broken, and the 42-year-old 35 mm still works. I ordered a new battery for the XSi just to see if there is something wrong with the original. The easy answer is to just buy a new camera but the Canon EOS Rebel T7 is the only one I could afford, and I really can't afford it right now. If I buy it will they stop servicing, it in a year or two like they have my other two cameras? Should I go with another brand after using canon for 43 years?

The XSi and T6i are very basic cameras that could be singing "yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away; now it looks as though they're here to stay."
I'd say that upgrading to a Canon RF body is a good idea and an R100 with and EF/RF adaptor would be an obvious choice for another basic camera that would not hurt your wallet. And Canon has other great options for a little more and a little more depending on how far you want to go. If you go that route, bounce your choices off of the folks here if you like to be double sure.
As mentioned in this forum, I bought an R100 as an emergency/backup body. My previous emergency body was an XSi and it just got so antiquated that it became a frustration to use. When I started using the R100 to familiarize myself with it, I came to really like it. My R100 is my go everywhere camera; it literally is with me all the time.
As for "my 35mm SLR still works fine", I "get" you. I shoot 35mm film with a Nikon F and FM, and also with a Pentax K2, K1000, MX, and an ME. I also shoot medium format. 35mm VS DSLR is very apples to oranges. My "analogs" keep trucking along, but my digitals I approach more as I do computers. In computer years, an XSi is ancient, much like my 2008 Macbook would be today if it had not already been replaced 3 times. A T6i is 10 years old.
Going with another brand of digital camera will produce the same "old computer" result that you are experiencing with your DSLR Canons. If you have lenses you enjoy using, hop to an RF body Canon and grab a Canon-brand EF/RF adaptor. In fact, one of my favorite lenses is an EF lens I bought in 1998 that is a happy camper with my R100 and R8 bodies via a Canon-brand EF/RF adaptor.

I removed the link to eBay. eBay is NOT an authorized Canon seller, and neither is Red Tag Camera.
Purchasing from third-party sellers is considered Gray Market and can be a headache. Learn more at https://canon.us/GrayMarket
You can find all the Authorized Dealers at https://canon.us/WhereToBuy

Yes Canon has multiple different EF-RF Mount adapters. Also please no 3rd Party links. Avoid Ebay for camera gear related purposes always use Canon Authorized Dealers.

You're absolutely allowed to talk about third-party adapters, lenses, etc. We don't allow links to purchase them because we (Canon USA) want to make this Community safe. The only occasional exception might be in the Gear Guide, and that'd be a case-by-case situation based on advice from our Illuminaries and trusted sources. 😊

I have been looking at the Canon R100 4k mirrorless camera. Is this an older model that will be out of date soon? I saw a kit at a major retail chain with two lenses that was $829. I might could swing that since they have 12 months no interest. I like that it has a popup flash on this model. I looked at the R50 but I don't think it has a flash. Will my Canon speedlite 420ex flash work on the R100?
I will be taking photos 95% of the time and not video. .

The EOS R100 is the entry level APS-C mirrorless camera. It replaces the Rebel DSLR lineup of cameras. It is up to date. The EOS R50 & EOS R10 also have a built in flash. The EOS R7 and all other Full Frame bodies lack a built in flash. Your Speedlite 420EX will work on mirrorless cameras and will have complete functionality. Though certain newer features such as the Speedlite Control Menu won't work. Since the flash was released before the creation of that menu system. But it will still work as it did. The camera's flash menu IS NOT mandatory for your flash to work. Make sure you purchase your new camera from a Canon Authorized Dealer. Amazon Marketplace, Walmart Marketplace. Are NOT Canon Authorized Dealers and you could be sold a Gray Market Camera. Which means it has NO WARRANTY. Canon has the right to decline repair of Gray Market camera gear.

Agree! Always buy quality and always go to reputable dealers. You hope you never need customer service, but you'll be thankful when you go with a dealer that is known for their stellar customer service.
