I've searched this topic before I have gotten mixed responses so trying again in the hopes of any advances. I will be travelling offshore to film rig crew interviews and believe my lithium-ion batteries will be prohibited by the helicopter company. Looking for options to use either alkaline batteries with my BG-E20 or a battery replacement pack that can be connected to a USB-C power bank or other power source.

It is not possible to use alkaline batteries with the BG-E20. There is no AA type battery tray for this battery grip.
The option you might check out is to use a DC coupler and an external battery pack. There is a DC couple DR-E6 that is a "dummy" battery that fits in the camera or battery grip slot. This has a wire that is then connected to a suitable power supply. There are some that fit to standard V-lock batteries, or use an AC power supply.

You might want to go with NiMH rechargeable batteries. I have had issues with alkaline batteries leaking. If you choose alkaline only keep them in your camera when you are using it.

Check with the company to be sure, but generally lithium-ion batteries are only prohibited when they are going to be stored in an unattended area like the cargo hold. In a camera or pack you are carrying is OK. Be sure the caps/protective covers are installed.

Thanks Brian; think that's the best option. I can leave the BG-E20 at home; take just one battery inside my camera and use the DR-E6 as an extended shooting option. This will lower my overall payload as well which is critical when traveling offshore.
