T6i Wifi is Pulling my Hair Out

Hi guys/gals.  I've had this camera about a year and now want to use the wifi function.  I've read, watched videos and I cannot connect.  I do get the blue wifi enable LED flashing bur cannot connect to my network.  It's asking for a password and the password is the encryption key but on my menu the encryption key reads AES and that does not work.  I was never asked to enter a camera name or led to that page.  I've also tried resetting the camera to factory settings and reinstalled the app but nothing seems to work.  Can anyone help?

This section describes how to connect the camera to a computer when importing images to the computer or specifying the camera settings from the computer.

IMPORTANT

If [ : Wi-Fi/NFC] is set to [Enable], the camera cannot be connected to a computer. Set [Wi-Fi/NFC] to [Disable], then reconnect the camera to a computer with an interface cable.

1. Confirm that the camera is not connected to the computer, and then flip out the camera’s monitor and set the camera's power switch to [ON].

For more information on how to use the camera’s monitor, please refer to Using the vari-angle LCD monitor (EOS REBEL T6i / EOS 750D).

2. Press the [MENU] button to display the menu screen.

3. Change the camera's Auto power off settings.

3-1. Press the [  ], [  ] keys to select the [  ] tab.

3-2. Press the [  ], [  ] keys to select [Auto power off], then press [  ].

3-3. Press the [  ], [  ] keys to select [Disable], then press [  ].

4. Press the [MENU] button to turn off the display on the LCD monitor, and then set the camera's power switch to [OFF].

5. Connect the large plug of the supplied interface cable into the USB port of your computer.

For the location and direction of the USB port, refer to the computer's instruction manual.

6. Make the connection to the camera.

With the [  ] mark on the plug facing the front of the camera, connect it to the camera’s [DIGITAL] terminal.

7. Set the camera's power switch to [ON].

8. EOS Utility starts automatically.

If EOS Utility does not start automatically, click the [Start] button, then select [All Programs], [Canon Utilities], and then [EOS Utility].

NOTE

• Windows 8: Right-click on the [Start] screen and click on [All apps] displayed at the bottom right of the screen to display the [Apps] screen. Then, click [EOS Utility].
• Windows 8.1: Click [↓]on the bottom left side of the [Start] screen to display the [Apps] screen, and then click [EOS Utility].
• Mac OS X: Click the [EOS Utility] icon on the Dock.

For information about operations after connecting the camera to the computer, please refer to the camera’s instruction manual.

This completes the process of connecting the camera to the computer.

No, they don't want that, they want the encryption number which I do not get like they show in the video.  I get AES for a number and that doesn't work.

Thanks for your very informative reply but I want to connect to my iPhone so I can use the iPhone as a wireless remote.  The learning videos I watched show no interrface cable being used between the phone and camera.

To communicate with a smartphone, the dedicated smartphone application Camera Connect (free of charge) is necessary.

Step 1: Connecting the Camera to the Smartphone (Basic Settings)

IMPORTANT

The position and shape of the operation buttons may differ depending on the model you use.

1. Turn the camera and the smartphone on.

2. Press the camera's [MENU] button to display the menu screen.

IMPORTANT

When the Auto Power Off setting is activated, the camera may turn off automatically when connected to other devices via a wireless LAN (Wi-Fi). As connections will be ended if the camera turns off, setting [ ] tab > Auto Power Off to [Disable] is recommended.

3. Press the [ ], [ ] keys to select the [ ] tab.

4. Press the [ ], [ ] keys to select [Wi-Fi/NFC], then press [ ].

5. Press the [ ] key to select [Enable], then press [ ].

For smartphones equipped with NFC features, press the [INFO] button to add [ ] to [Allow NFC connections].

REFERENCE

When using an Android smartphone (OS version 4.0 or later), check if it is NFC-enabled.

Smartphones labeled with the mark are NFC-enabled. Some smartphones are not labeled with the mark even if they are NFC-enabled; if you do not know whether your smartphone is NFC-enabled, contact the manufacturer of the smartphone.

Select [OK], then enter the nickname. You can Enter any characters between 1 to 14 characters in length.

 

When you are finished, press the [MENU] button.

Select [OK] on the confirmation dialog and press [ ] to return to the menu screen.

Step 3: Viewing and Saving Images with the Smartphone

1. Select [Images on camera] from the Camera Connect main window on the smartphone.

2. Save images from the camera to the smartphone.

When the connection has been established, the images stored in the camera will be displayed in [Camera Connect] as shown in the example image below.

Tap the [ ] button appearing at the bottom of the screen.

3. When the selection screen is displayed, choose the desired images (), and then tap [Save] ().

The selected images will be saved to the smartphone.

4. After the images have been saved, tap the home button in the top left of the screen to return to the menu.

5. To end the connection, tap the [ ] icon in the upper right of the screen, then tap [Yes] when the confirmation screen appears.

This concludes the procedure for sending images to a smartphone via a wireless LAN.

• When viewable images are specified, functions of Camera Connect will be limited.
• While connected, a picture cannot be taken even if the cameraâs shutter button is pressed.
• Depending on the connection status, image display or shutter release may become slower than usual.

Yes, I pressed the right arrow and pressed set and then the screeen returns to the beginning.  I have no screen that allows me to create a nickname.  Why does everything have to be so complicated.  I bought the camera so I wouldn't have to buy a remote.
