Rebel t6 used to restart when shooting videos

I realize my camera shuts off every 4GB of video...but it used to restart, and continue filming another 4GB before doing this all over again.  Now, it shuts down and stays shut off.  Why is this?

Hi kelnick32,

On the EOS Rebel T6 when a video file reaches 4GB the camera should be starting a new file without stopping your recording. There aren't any settings on the camera that changes that behavior. With an issue like this we would recommend loading a different memory card in the camera to see if the same thing happens.

If this issue isn't happening with a different memory card that is an indication the first card may need to be formatted. Before formatting the card make sure to back up everything you need from the card onto your computer. Once the card is formatted any files on it are deleted.

Once everything is backed up on your computer put the camera into either P, Tv, Av, or M and press the Menu button. Go to the first yellow wrench tab and select Format Card. On the next page press the trash can button so that there is a check mark next to Low Level Format. When you see the check mark select Okay and that will format the card.

If this issue is happening with every memory card you try at that point we would recommend sending the camera in for repair.

Still doesn't work. Not paying money to have it fixed. Does anybody else have a solution? Thanks.

Hi Tron…about 12 minutes.  Once again, it used to restart and continue recording but not anymore.

Hmmm... well, assuming that the card is not an issue, have you tried to do a full camera reset to factory default?

cheers, TREVOR
