My Rebel T6 shuts off before I can access menu. I've cleaned battery contacts, use a new battery and have taken out battery and memory card to "reset", to no avail.

marycg,
Just for the heck of it, try squeezing your battery door shut with one hand, while turning your camera on with the other. These cameras are designed not to turn on at all, or turn off if the battery door is not closed firmly. If that works, maybe you can use a piece of gorilla tape to keep it closed until you can get it fixed.
I watched a video from a guy that sounded like he was having problems similar to yours.
The way he fixed it was to turn his camera on with no cards in it. Then he went to the menu and turned on the setting that said, "Release shutter without card". He was then able to activate the shutter. Turns out he had a corrupt SD card. He got a new one and it solved his problem.

Thanks for your response Steve. I did try your two ideas but the camera does not stay on long enough to access the menu. I may try and buy a new memory card and I will investigate sending my camera to Canon for diagnostic, estimate and repair. Our local camera repair shop is booked for the next two months.

Greetings,
You can remove all accessories from the camera including the lens. With only the battery installed, the camera should still be able to power on.
There's no need to buy a memory card. If it's not present, the camera should still turn on.
Steve's suggestions regarding the battery door and memory card slot door both matter. Each uses a micro switch. If the doors are not closed or if the switch is not fully engaged (loose), the camera could power on and shut off unexpectedly. Holding them closed with light firm pressure should allow you to to test. You can also inspect them to make sure that the parts of the doors which engage the micro switches are both intact.
I recommend against using any tapes (Band-Aids) 😂 on your camera body.
If service is required:
Canon still services the T6. Start by registering your camera in your MyCanon account. From there, you can initiate an inspection/repair request. Describe the issue you are experiencing. They will provide a quote with shipping instructions.

Thanks so much Rick for your reply. I did take the lens off, battery and memory card out and left the door open for two days. It did not fix the issue. I have ask cannon for an estimate/diagnosis for repair. I will keep the forum in the loop when I hear back.
