R6 mk2 train and airplane vehicle detection to R5?

Hello. I'm wondering if the updated vehicle tracking in the R6 mk2 will eventually make its way to the R5 via firmware. Does anyone have any indications or opinions based on the past? Crossing my fingers.

It's possible, but Canon Rumors is saying R5 mark II by second quarter of 2023. So, they may be waiting or working on these upgrades, and more, for the R5 mark II. Some of the new R62 features I could see being able to implement with firmware on the R5, but new hardware is in order for some of the improvements, IMO, but I'm no camera designer 🙂

I've been reading the specs for the R6 mark II (we have an R6), and it looks impressive. We shoot primarily stills and it looks like they have beefed up the video more than my interest, stills. Still, dang impressive!

I recently bought the R5 as an upgrade from the R because of speed and resolution mainly.  When I read how well the plane tracking feature in the R6 works, I was really hoping to see it applied to R5 firmware update.  I know zero about whether or not this is possible via firmware, but it would definitely make the camera complete for me.

I own canon eos R5. I have a preview about the update. If you remember with firmware V1.5.0, vehicle tracking system was added. This was only in R3. Currently horse, plane, helicopter, etc. R6 Mark 2 and R8 are also available. In this case, I think new tracking features can be added in R3 and R5. These bodies should have the features of high-end and low-level cameras. This is purely a software situation. I think we have to wait.

According to Canonrumors, their engineers heard us, and we may see this feature added this year!  🐵

There are a few places out there saying this update will be released at NAB (April 15-19) in Las Vegas.

Canon Rumors has another article regarding this firmware update. Canon is saying the update will include what they're calling IBIS High Resolution that will take 9 frames to produce a 400MP image.  That sounds pretty cool, but I'm not sure what loading and editing images will be like on older systems.  I'm still stoked about the update and looking forward to the updated AF tracking modes.  That article is here:  https://www.canonrumors.com/are-400mp-stills-coming-to-the-canon-eos-r5/
