R5 – Mysterious Symbol

Can anyone tell me what this symbol means, and which has appeared on the top right of the rear screen of my R5 ?

I've done a search of the 'Advanced Guide' and the internet but have been unable to find any reference to it.

Exactly where does it show up? That can be a clue as to what it is:

Also: R5? R5 mkII? R5C?

Photo? Video? Playback?

It's an on screen button to allow you to centre the AF point. Once you tap it the AF point will go back to the centre of the frame, and the icon will go away. As soon as the AF point is not centred the icon appears.

Here's the mention of this in the EOS R5 Mark II manual, see 2> Move the AF point

Also see this in the EOS R5 manual, also 2. Move the AF point

Thank you p4pictures.  I've just tried tapping it and it has gone away.  I understand now.  Thank you.

It's just to the left of the Q symbol (17) on the diagram above.

other info.  Camera connected to my laptop.  Taking stills (or attempting to).  No other info, apart from the image, is displayed on the screen.

Greetings,

This icon means you are shooting with magnification turned on.  Press the Magnifying glass button and it will turn on/off.

Aha!  Yes.  Just tested this and you are correct.  I am trying hard to see how the icon represents magnification but no doubt Canon thought it was clear.  How about a little magnifying glass ?  Just saying.
