I took my fairly new R5 on a 1 month vacation and intentionally did not install firmware update 1.5 until I was home after the vacation. After installing 1.5 I have had several lock ups using a EF 100-400 lens with BBF and animal/eye focus with * button. I hope Canon will resolve this well known, common problem.

We’re you using Servo AF autofocusing mode? If so, there is a new firmware upgrade to 1.5.1 that fixes the issue.

I was using servo and I have 1.50. I will try the update.

Thanks for that link! Interesting. I'm not using a teleconverter though and it looks like one person was able to resolve the issue by removing the teleconverter. I'll do the firmware upgrade and see how it goes.

I've had it happen with and without the teleconverter

The 1.5.1 didn't fix the issue, or there are multiple ways to get the R5 to lock up
