On the EOS 60D is the LCD view screen the default for aiming/focusing/shooting a photo?

When I turn the camera on and press the "camera" button I can only view my scene through the LCD -  the viewfinder is dark. If I press the camera button again, the view finder opens up. Do I have the wrong preset somewhere?

When you press the camera icon you are turning on live view, which shows what the camera is seeing on the LCD.

For traditional viewinder camera use don't press that button.

If you bought the camera used w/o a manual you can download one here:

Thank you - there is a  lot to absorb and remember in the manual. I obviously didn't absorb this info very well!
