M50 - please update firmware to include clean HDMI out while using autofocus

This subject has been beaten to death I suppose, but it's also an infuriating subject that won't go away.

Anyway, I'd like to request that Canon release a firmware for the M50, Mark 1, that gets rid of the only item left on the screen via HDMI out, the focus box, so a person can record from their camera via HDMI, while also using autofocus.

Thanks...

Waddizzle, I dont think you understand the the issue, as OF COURSE the fix is a simple firmware update. Can you explain why you think it's not?

I do not have to explain anything to you.  It has not happened, yet, which means that it is probably not ever going to happen.

Sir,

I'm no expert in this area. So yes. I must be making a false assumption. Removing a few overlays from the output must be possible since we can already remove some of the things by simply pressing the "info button" - the elgato 4k capture card gets the input very clear. only a few bits of information is to be removed or switched off. Anyone looking for a solution - Found the Solution!

on Your M50 - go to menu -> spanner like icon (3rd on top) -> 4th sub menu - Shooting info.disp

in this menu - select screen info settings - deselect all ticks (u cannot deselect number 4)

now try the output. it works!

I wrote to sony global via there contact page, and they had directed the inquiry to my local dealer - they went thru this and informed me!

Hats off to metropolitan Sri Lanka!

Hey, I followed what you wrote but I still have the AF box on faces on HDMI 😞 any idea ? thank you !

You still have the AF box because the correction is a hardware issue.  If they remove all of the icons on the HDMI output, then the rear screen will go blank and you will lose autofocus.  This is because the camera has only ONE set of video electronics to produce a video signal.

Cameras that are able to output Clean HDMI and maintain autofocus have TWO sets of video electronics.  One signal goes to the rear screen, which allows you to control exposure settings, autofocus, etc.  The second signal goes to the HDMI port.

A firmware update will not create a second set of video electronics within the camera.

Waddizle - what you are saying may be true with certain cameras, but it is certainly NOT true with the M50 Mk 1 as it's identical in hardware to the Mk 2.  Have you torn apart both the Mk 1 and Mk 2 and found the difference you are talking about? If not, then how could you possibly know that what you are saying is true?   Could you recognize the difference even if you could see it? No?

So please just STOP.

Thank you lol

Haven’t you noticed that it does not work the way you want?  No firmware update is forthcoming, either.  Instead of updating the firmware, they released a Mark II version of the camera.

The End.

OK - sounds like you changed your mind then, now you are saying it IS a firmware issue.  Yeesh.  And of course that's what everyone else in this thread has been saying all along.
